This argument is also pretty relevant to the convergence between the Conservative and Labour parties in Britain.

0:50 “It’s your own choice: Do you want to live in a democratic society - or do you want to live in the society we have?”

    well said :D

people are influenced in their behavour by the nations. They see: “Aha!, the nation uses exessive power to get what it wants”, so in in a way how nations act justifies the use
of agression by individuals in the nation.

like if a father uses force and dominance in a family and the world , this has grave effects on how the children precieve the world in their lives.

The Chomsky vs Foucault debate is one of the most interesting discussions ever captured by a video camera - watch it if you haven’t already

You are only half right JEG2001. America SHOULD be about being free and finding your own sense of justice in life. The current oppresive system does not allow people to do that freely. Also, if people were to “find their own sense of justice, social justice would inevitably follow. It would have to by definition.

  • 9 Anonymous // Aug 16, 2008 at 1:35 am

JEG2001; you said “America is about being free and finding your own sense of justice in life. Those that look for social justice are seeking fools gold.” What you apparently fail to realize is that whenone HONESTLY finds their own sense of justice, social justice ineveitably follows.

He seems to make sense out of nonsense spouted everywhere. Everything he says makes sense to me

  • 11 Anonymous // Aug 16, 2008 at 1:35 am

If you want to understand America read John Locke “Liberalism” Read this book and you will understand the theories that make America way it is. Chomsky is twisting Madison ideas and not telling people everything Madison and the founding father believe. America is about being free and finding your own sense of justice in life. Those that look for social justice are seeking fools gold.

I am not an anarchist, but I respect Noam Chomsky’s ethical system.

I reject the intelligence community’s argument that “to make an omelet you have to break some eggs.”

Three conditions must be met for an action to be good:
    1. Motivation for action must be good,
    2. Means must be good (no bad deeds for a “good cause”), and
    3. the desired result must be good.

American foreign policy has been for motivated by greed & more power. America has supported dictatorships and overthrown democracies.

“Every government is corrupt and every nation has done terrible things.”

Depressingly true. As Tennessee Williams once put it, “If people behaved in the way nations do they would all be put in straitjackets.” Yet we continue to refrain from taking the necessary radical action to rectify this.

  • 14 Anonymous // Aug 16, 2008 at 1:35 am

Every government is corrupt and every nation has done terrible things. Very few have done the good things America has done. Chomsky is an idealist and a self-described anarachist-communist…completely unrealistic…the guy is definitely intelligent but does not understand that Utopia is impossible because people will always want to hold power over others. He paints a positive picture of the USSR (1 of the worst governments ever)in some speeches but never mentions anything good about the US.

Calling the still very active Chomsky an idiot (nstitute Professor emeritus of linguistics at MIT, father of modern linguistics, and considered a walking foreign policy treasure trove of information) an idiot, makes you look like the preeminent KING of idiots. Buckley was an arrogant ass when compared to Chomsky. His goal was the same as Rush Limbaugh’s, feed your audience what it wants for ratings. Nothing more.

No, Buckley was the idiot, and this video shows it quite well.
